Rangerthon 11.18.20
Hello Ranger Community!
Unfortunately, we are unable to hold our Annual Ranger Run this school year. HOWEVER, we will be hosting a live RANGERTHON (aka telethon) on Wednesday, November 18th from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm via ZOOM webinar to raise funds for Deerpark Middle School. Money raised will be used to fund teacher wish lists and support learning in our “new normal.”
We would love to showcase our community’s talents. While the hosting is LIVE, pre-recorded talent videos will be shown to ensure a smooth viewing experience. If you are interested in submitting a video, please sign-up here!
Videos should not exceed 2 minutes. Interested participants will receive a follow-up email regarding further instructions for submitting. Thank you for your consideration and support. We are super excited to showcase our talent in our Ranger community.

¡Hola comunidad Ranger!

Global Read Aloud opportunity: Oct. 12 – Nov 20
Deerpark is excited to offer our students the opportunity to participate in the 2020 Global Read Aloud Project with students from around the world! Watch our KICK-OFF video Here and on the DMS Library Website!  This optional reading experience will run Oct 9 – Nov 20. DMS students and staff will have the opportunity to read this year’s 2020 GRA selection for middle schools: Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You . We will upload recordings of staff reading the book chapters each week on the Deerpark Library website. Students who wish to participate are encouraged but not required to get their own copy of the book. They can simply listen along if they choose.  The DMS Library will host a follow-up optional book club afterwards for students who read the book.  If you would like more information about the Global Read Aloud, feel free to visit the website www.theglobalreadaloud.com or reach out to DMS Librarian mary_illingworth@roundrockisd.org.  We invite you to share in this exciting project with your student!

Unleash your creative potential! Enter the Reflections art contest, brought to you by the
Deerpark Middle School PTA! This year’s theme is “I Matter Because.” You can submit
projects in any of the following categories: Dance Choreography, Film, Literature, Music
Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. Entries are due Monday, November 9. All
students are encouraged to enter! Get more information about the contest here!

The Yearbook team needs your help! I know you have been asked to wear many extra hats this year and we have one more to add – YEARBOOK PHOTOGRAPHER!
With social distancing rules and virtual learning in place, our yearbook photographers can’t be everywhere and we need your help. But, don’t worry…. we have an APP for that!
We are asking for teachers, parents and students to install and use Balfour’s Image Share app this year to submit photos for the yearbook. There is even a place to enter in WHO is the photo and WHAT they are doing so we know where to use the photo in the yearbook. You can upload photos of virtual learning or any other school events including fine arts and athletics. We want our yearbook to capture the year and we can’t do it without you. Once you download and install the Image Share App, you will enter your email address. Then, you will receive an email from Balfour allowing you to create a username and password. Once you log-in, you are ready to submit photos to the yearbook staff. The app will allow you to upload 5 images at a time. Please do NOT upload photos that have been received through a text message or have been downloaded from social media. Those images will not be high enough quality to use in the yearbook.   And please be sure the students in the photos attend Deerpark Middle School.
Each month we will be having a contest for a winning photo.   The September photo contest is –
Your social distance set-up.
Please send us a photo of your home learning set-up – with or without you in it.
Please let me know if you have any questions
Respectfully,
