What is your Winter Break plan for your Chromebook?

Winter Break is December 17-January 4th

Please create a plan with your family to care for your RRISD Chromebooks over the break. It’s easy to lose a device or charger when we are out of our regular routine. This loss can result in charges for the family (per the signed device agreement) as well as a disruption in access to schoolwork upon return to school. Discuss where your items will be stored during the break and what the rules for use are in your home while students are not in school.

Thank you!

ONLINE PAYMENT FOR REPLACEMENT DEVICE/CHARGER/REPAIR FEES

    ———————————————————————————-

RETURNING students that do not have a Chromebook will need to bring a signed copy of their Device Agreement to their family teacher, front office, or ITS in order to get a device. Paper copies are available in all front offices, at lunch, and from the ITS.

NEW students will get a device with their counselors when they get their schedule with a signed paper copy if not completed online during enrollment.

    ———————————————————————————-

    CHROMEBOOKS

In the 2021-2022 school year, the district expectation is that every student has a fully charged district Chromebook with them each day for all of their classes. This device will be taken home each night and brought back fully charged each day.

How you can help make this happen:

    • Complete the Student Device Agreement form in Infosnap (the RRISD student registration online forms) and select YES for the Device Agreement form. This is for all NEW and RETURNING students.
    • Talk with your student and find a place in your home to charge the Chromebook each night.
    • Help your student get in the habit of plugging in the device each night and put it back in their backpack each morning.
    • Take time to already complete the Deerpark Software/App approval form for all students under age 13
    • Discuss the Acceptable Use Policy and Device Agreement as it pertains to behavior with the device and internet use during school.

If you already have a Chromebook:

    • Turn it on and make sure it is working properly
    • Clear the cache (should be done once every few weeks)
    • Update Chrome – should be done once a month.

    Students without district-issued devices:

    • New students, those that never received them, or those who may have accidentally returned it to their previous campus will be receiving one in the first 3 weeks of school if their paperwork is complete.
    • BYOD: If your student wishes to use a personal device we recommend you come to a district building close enough for the guest Wifi and use these instructions onboard it to get on the RRISD wifi PRIOR to the 1st day of school. Tech support and assistance onboarding is not available for personal devices. District devices will be required for various testing situations and if a personal device can not support the programs needed for instruction.

If your device OR charger is not working/is broken/is lost:

    • Please complete this Repair/Replacement Device Form and you will be contacted by the device team regarding when you can bring in to send for repair.
    • Please be sure to read the fee scale on the Device Agreement form that is hyperlinked in the registration you completed for RRISD enrollment.

    Regarding Schoology:

    • We will continue to use Schoology as our Learning Management System.
    • You can contact your student’s teachers for a Schoology Parent Code (you only need to get it from one teacher to see everything)

Thank you for helping to create a successful Return of our Rangers!
